Dutch dance and theatre at Istanbul Theatre Festival 2020
#Dutchfocus #Istanbul #Turkey #dance #theatre #online #livestream #awardThis year Istanbul Theatre Festival presented an extensive online programme alongside a selection of physical performances. In collaboration with Dutch Performing Arts, the festival presented live streamed performances by Dutch theatre and dance companies NDT 2 and Club Guy & Roni. The 24th edition of Istanbul Theatre Festival took place from 6 November until 1 December 2020 online and in Istanbul, Turkey.
Istanbul Theatre Festival is an international event that brings together theatre and dance companies from Turkey and abroad. Every year the festival presents a selection of companies and artists that open up new horizons for both the audience and the art scene.
Since 1997 Istanbul Theatre Festival presents two Lifetime Achievement Awards to one local and one international artist. The festival gave the Honorary Award to Ivo van Hove, Dutch theatre maker and director at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam.
"Thank you for this amazing Honorary Award. I feel blessed to be among an illustrious list of great theatre directors that received this award before me", said Van Hove in a special video message during the festival's opening ceremony. "It's a shame I can't be there with you in my beloved Istanbul, but be sure that I am very, very thankful for this huge honour that you have given to me and to the body of work I have made over the years. And I hope, of course, to be with you in Istanbul, with a production, as soon as possible. Thank you very much."
Previous award winners include Thomas Ostermeier, Berliner Ensemble, Pina Bausch, Robert Wilson, Peter Brook, Tadashi Suzuki, and Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota.
