Three Dutch-language theatre texts at La Chartreuse

Three French artistic teams will present stage readings of their texts in front of professional and regular audiences on 21 and 24 July 2021. The readings at La Chartreuse as well as the translations themselves are part of a four-year project to promote Dutch-language theatre texts in French-speaking regions, a joint effort of Dutch Performing Arts, Maison Antoine Vitez, Flanders Arts Institute, and Flanders Literature.
La Chartreuse in Villeneuve lez Avignon, France is one of the most significant places in Europe for residencies devoted to dramaturgical writing. It hosts nearly sixty residencies per year for authors or companies, as well as workshops and master classes. La Chartreuse is also frequently open to the public during public rehearsals or events involving residents and other guest artists — especially in July, in collaboration with the renowned Festival d'Avignon.
On 21 July two works translated from Dutch and Flemish, on the themes of social inequality and violence againt women, will be read. The readings are part of La Chartreuse's Rencontre(s) d'été 2021 ('Summer Meeting(s)').

As part of a special collaboration that started in 2018, Dutch Performing Arts, Flanders Literature and Flanders Arts Institute organize the translation and presentation of stage readings of theatre texts from Flanders and the Netherlands in France, in collaboration with Maison Antoine Vitez. Together the organisations want to increase the visibility of contemporary Dutch-language theatre texts in French-speaking regions. The translated theatre texts will be presented for French-speaking theatre professionals at various festivals and other events.
