#exchange #international #collaboration #inspiration #Netherlands #Turkey #theatremakers #newgenerationFrom 29 May - 6 June 2021 Kundura Stage in Istanbul, Turkey will host the first edition of PerformLab, an exchange programme that offers new perspectives to a fresh generation of theatremakers. The programme is organised in collaboration with Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam (TR), and supported by Dutch Performing Arts and the Netherlands consulate-general in Istanbul. Four Netherlands-based theatremakers have been selected to take part in the exchange programme in Istanbul: Cherish Menzo, Benjamin Kahn, Khadija El Kharraz Alami and Samara Hersch.
The PerformLab exchange programme aims to bring together artists from Turkey and the Netherlands to plant the seeds of possible collaborations and lay foundations for a sustainable artistic dialogue between the two countries. Through a series of workshops the programme offers new perspectives to performing artists from a wide range of disciplines who have an interest in performance and interdisciplinary work.
At the invitation of Productiehuis TR four Netherlands-based theatremakers will be taking part in the exchange programme in Istanbul:
Through an open call an additional group of nine artists from Turkey were selected by a jury consisting of dramaturg/director Ayşe Draz, curator/producer Pelin Başaran and artist/curator Melih Gencboyaci of Productiehuis TR, and Istanbul-based cultural manager/curator/filmmaker S. Buse Yildirim. The Turkey-based artists selected are: Barış Arman, Halil İbrahim Aygün, Selen Gürmen, Nursev Irmak, Onur Karaoğlu, Dilan Onay, Doğan Can Serinkaya, Nadir Sönmez, and Filiz İzem Yaşın.
PerformLab takes place at Kundura Stage located at the Beykoz Kundura in Istanbul, from 29 May - 6 June 2021. The programme brings together 14 artists from the Netherlands and Turkey so they can share their artistic practices and research processes. They will also support each other in developing their methods and ideas for new performances.
Once the programme has come to an end and Cherish Menzo, Benjamin Kahn and Khadija El Kharraz Alami have returned from Istanbul, they will continue their collective research at Productiehuis TR through a platform entitled TRipp [space]. The platform invites artists to exchange knowledge and ideas. The three Netherlands-based artists will present their findings to the public on 27 June 2021 at Theater Rotterdam.
